It all started with an old axe and the belief that hard work matters. In 2013, Jordan Newman picked up that axe, split some logs, and found more than a workout—he found purpose.

What began as training became meditation. Then came the question: Why? The answer—because good work should do good.

So he built Very Good Firewood. Every log split, every bundle sold, every shirt printed—all to support kids at the local youth emergency shelter.

Year one: $750 raised.
Year two: $3,150.
Year three: $3,500.

Year four: $4200.

By 2025, Very Good Firewood became a 501(c)(3). With one rule: It’s not about you. Ever.

Nobody profits. Every dollar goes where it should. Every swing of the axe reminds us: hard work done for others is the right kind of work. And we’re just getting started.
